The basics
What is the Hungry Brain Library?+
A take-home library for the preschool years. Every week a child takes home a kit with a storybook, a Thinking Skills Game and a learning activity, uses it with a parent, and brings it back for the next one. Hungry Brain sets the whole library up for a preschool or for a parent who runs one from home: the kits, the app, the parent guidance and the stationery.
What does “Rotational Learning” mean?+
It is the idea the library runs on. Instead of every family buying (and outgrowing) its own books and games, a set of well-designed kits rotates between children, week after week. Each child keeps meeting something new, each kit is used again and again, and the cost is shared.
What exactly is inside a kit?+
Three things: a storybook, a Thinking Skills Game and a learning activity, packed in a slim waterproof kit bag that is colour-coded by level. The kit also carries a kit badge, and the app holds the step-by-step guidance for that week's kit.
Which ages is it for?+
The four preschool years, Playgroup to Senior KG. The material is made level by level, so it grows with the child year after year. Home libraries use the same four levels, called Level 1 to Level 4.
Do children use a screen?+
No. Children only touch books, game pieces and activity pages. The app is for adults: it guides the parent and keeps records for the school or library owner.
Who creates the books and games?+
The Hungry Brain team in Mumbai: original stories, illustrations, game boards and card sets, made level by level for Indian preschoolers. Hungry Brain has worked with families on early learning for over a decade.
How sturdy are the kits? Many children will use them.+
They are made for that. Game boards are laser-cut MDF made for many little hands, and every kit is checked when it comes back. If a piece goes missing, the app shows exactly which kit it belongs to, so it is easy to trace and replace. Talk to us about replacement pieces.
How long does a kit take at home?+
Short, unhurried sittings work best at this age, often 10 to 20 minutes at a time, spread over the week. The guidelines and videos in the app show the parent how to use each item.
Will the collection change?+
Yes. This is a new library and it keeps growing. We add titles and games as we go and we shape the library around what schools and families tell us they need.
For schools
How does the School Library work?+
Your school enrols each child in the app. Each week a teacher or support staff member gives the child a kit and taps to record it. When the kit comes back, they check it and update the app, then hand over the next one. That is all your team does. Hungry Brain takes care of the rest.
How many kits does each child get?+
Every child receives 30 different weekly kits in each preschool year: Playgroup, Nursery, Junior KG and Senior KG. Each year's material matches the children's age.
How can the library earn for our school?+
Your school pays once for a year's kits and uses them over multiple years. The library fees you collect from parents stay with your school as additional income. We will walk you through the numbers for your enrolment in the demo.
What does it cost?+
It depends on how many levels you start with and how many children you have. Book a virtual kit and app demo and we will prepare a quote for your school.
We have more than 30 children in a class. Does that work?+
Yes. Tell us your class sizes and we will plan the right number of kits so every child gets a kit every week.
Does it replace our syllabus?+
No. The library is a take-home addition. Your school keeps its own syllabus and classroom material; the library carries learning into the home, through the parent.
How much work is it for our teachers?+
A few minutes per child, per week: hand over, check back, tap. Parents get their guidance inside the app, so your teachers don't have to explain each kit.
What can teachers see in the app?+
All the library material, each child's activity history and the parents' feedback, in one place.
What if something comes back damaged or missing?+
Your staff check each kit when it returns, and the app records it. Your school sets its own library rules, such as a deposit, and the records make them easy to apply.
Who owns the kits?+
Your school keeps the kits and circulates them among enrolled children.
Do you also have programs we can run in class?+
Yes. Hungry Brain's School Programs (Maths, Memory and Reading) are a short start-and-end-of-day routine your teachers run alongside your own syllabus, with daily app guidance, one-to-one training and ongoing support.
For Home Library owners
Who can start a Home Library?+
Any parent who wants meaningful work from home, especially mothers who have paused a career for a young child. You don't need teaching experience. The app and the videos guide your families, and our team helps them understand the games.
How much does it cost to start?+
₹1,25,000 + GST per level, as an initial payment. You can start with one level. From year 2 there is an annual charge of ₹1,000 per registration.
What do I get?+
50 ready-to-use kits with bags for each level, delivered to you; the library app; step-by-step guidelines and videos for your families; team guidance for your customers; and stationery and promotional designs for your library.
What do families pay me?+
₹5,000 a year as the annual library fee. You can also collect a first-time registration fee of ₹500 and a deposit of ₹1,500 (both optional). Registration fees you collect are entirely yours.
How much can I earn?+
In our example, 40 families in one level in year 1 pay ₹2,00,000 in fees, which is ₹75,000 above the ₹1,25,000 setup, plus ₹20,000 in registration fees if you collect them. Break-even is 25 families. From year 2, 40 families in each of four levels comes to about ₹53,333 a month on average. These exclude GST and your running costs and are not a guarantee. Try the calculator on the Home Library page.
How much time does it take?+
About one day a week. You choose your library day and how you run the exchanges.
Do I need a lot of space?+
No shop is needed. The kits come in slim bags; a cupboard or a set of shelves at home is enough to start.
Can I add levels later?+
Yes. Start with one level and add the next as your families' children grow.
How will parents find me?+
Your own neighbourhood, society and school groups are the usual start, and we give you designed promotional material. Parents can also register at hungrybrain.in, and a library locator is coming soon.
The app and support
What does the app do for parents?+
It shows them exactly how to use each week's kit, with simple guidelines and step-by-step videos. Parents can share feedback on each item and save photos of their child exploring, which build into the child's photo journey.
What does it do for the school or library owner?+
It keeps every record for you: who is enrolled, which child has which kit, what came back, each child's activity history and the parents' feedback. No registers, no spreadsheets.
Will someone show us how to use it?+
Yes. We set your library up, walk your team through the app and the admin panel, and stay a call or a message away.
Which phones does it run on?+
Android and iPhone. The library lives inside the Hungry Brain app.
For parents looking for a library
How can my child join?+
Ask your child's preschool about the Hungry Brain School Library, or join a Home Library near you. Parents can register at hungrybrain.in; the library locator is coming soon. You can also message us and we'll tell you what's available near you.
Why borrow instead of buy?+
A child explores a new storybook, game and activity every week, far more than most families could buy or store, and the cupboard at home stays clear. A Home Library's annual fee works out to less than ₹14 a day.
Still wondering about something?
Ask us directly. A short call usually answers everything, and we can show you a real kit and the app while we're at it.
